Samba

Already the first slaves arriving in Brazil in the early days of colonialization brought the music and dance of their African homeland with them. Then, however, three centuries had to pass before the music from Africa was widely accepted and entered the parlors of Rio de Janeiro and of other large cities.

The Angolan "Tamtam" forms the basis for the choreography and music of the Samba, Brazil's most popular rhythm. Its fame increased most of all through the country's largest spectacle, the carnival.

Samba is one of the trademarks of Brazil. Many people all over the world marvel at Samba as the expression of vitality and exuberance. In the streets, on the beach, or in the samba schools - drums and dancers convert life everywhere into a turbulent and seductive festival.
