OXOSSI

Lord of the forest and of hunting
Oxossi, © Francisco Santos

Oxossi is the Orixá of hunting, the loner, distant and alien to himself. If he shoots an arrow, he always hits the bull's eye without knowing why.
The importance of Oxossi is large, since the hunters, who are led and protected by him, find good places for new settlements. He also is the deity of plentifulness, abundance, and wealth. His negative sides can however be the lack of supplies, shortage, and lacking care. He is the hunter of lunch and dinner, of all meals in general.
Farming is also under his protection, planting and a good harvest. His characteristics are ease, wisdom, cunning, and also considerateness.
He is a lover of the arts and of all beautiful things. His color is green, his symbol bow and arrow, his stone the emerald. He lives in the forest, in the wilderness, in the hunting grounds. Thursday is his day.
